The Perfect Valentine’s Day gifts usually include candy, perfumes, and jewelry for both men and women. Dinner dates are popular, and restaurants will have romantic menu specials to help celebrate February 14th.
DIY gifts are always the best, and nothing says “love” more than delicious food! “Dinner and a movie” could include a homemade culinary delight followed by When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and Valentine’s Day (2010).
A Perfect Valentine’s Day Dinner
What’s better than a special dinner you can make for your special someone on Valentine’s Day? Whether this is dinner for two or twenty, every dish will have one exclusive ingredient available nowhere else in the world: Your heartfelt desire to make the day extraordinary.
One couple celebrated Valentine’s Day by cooking together:
We started the evening by cooking a meal together and it was amazing. Getting to create something romantic together was beautiful. After we finished dinner, he brought us to the same place where we had our first date, Hyde Park, and we held hands while we walked around. At the end of the night, he surprised me by booking a hotel room. When we got there, he had my favorite kind of chocolates lying out on the bed. It was so simple yet so perfect. Best Valentine’s Day ever! –Isabel
The Gift of R & R
Valentine’s Day 2019 is on a Thursday, so the best possible gift would be a 3-day weekend at a romantic cabin or hotel. If your romantic weekend has to wait, perhaps you can both stay home Thursday or Friday. For busy, hard-working men and women, a “day off” is heavenly!
Rest and relaxation (R & R) is not that expensive, but few of us actually plan for it. One guy’s idea of “the perfect Valentine’s Day” was sleeping late and waking to breakfast in bed.
What about scheduling a homemade “spa” retreat for your loved one? You can give this gift to your special someone and make the timeframe work.
Here’s a Valentine’s Day cocktail, “Moonlighter,” that’s the perfect kick-off for your R & R evening:
- 1.5 oz. Ketel One Family-Made Vodka
- .75 oz. chamomile-lavender syrup
- .5 oz. Cocchi Americano
- .75 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 2 oz. soda water
- Lemon twist
- Lavender sprigs
- Chamomile tea
- Lavender tea
1. Combine vodka, chamomile lavender syrup, lemon juice, and Cocchi American in a shaker.
2. Add ice and shake lightly. (Over-shaking will cause the drink to water-down.)
3. Add soda water. Strain over ice into a collins glass.
4. Garnish with lemon twist/fresh lavender sprigs.
Instructions for chamomile- lavender syrup:
1. Brew 1 cup of strong chamomile and lavender tea. Allow the tea to steep 20 minutes.
2. Remove tea bags/herbs.
3. Measure remaining amount of brewed tea then stir in equal volume of sugar until dissolved.
Soothing Comfort: DIY Spa
While sipping a cocktail, soaking in a warm tub filled with body-soothing essential oils or bath salts can help your lover’s stress-filled day become a distant memory. Fill the room with candlelight comforting candlelight and soothing aromas.
Faintly, from another room, restful music drifts into your spa. Follow this long soak with an organic Greek olive oil massage. Before bed, complete your Valentine’s Day with dessert halva and tea.
