Organic Ironwort - Sideritis "Greek mountain tea"
Our organic ironwort tea, or commonly named Greek mountain tea, is also referred to as shepherd’s tea. Very popular and widely used in Greece since ancient times, this exceptional natural remedy was recognized by the father of medicine Hippocrates, who referred to the tea as a reliever for immune, anxiety and respiratory symptoms.
The Greek mountain tea consists of leaves from the Sideritis plant, locally known as ironwort. A unique plant, endemic to the Mediterranean basin, known to carry several health benefits due to its rich content of antioxidants, polyphenols, and other phytonutrients.
The Sideritis plant has been found to have an abundant amount of natural antioxidants such as flavonoids. Similar to the Health benefits of Black Tea and Lemon It is even believed that the antioxidants of this unique beverage outnumber those found in green tea.
Apart from other effects, it is an excellent beverage suppressing or mitigating the symptoms of various degenerative diseases, depression, and anxiety. Such diseases can be Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other similar.
Additional antioxidant compounds in the Sideritis plant include aglycones, chlorogenic acid (cancer-preventing compound), verbascoside (anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial), and various others have also been identified.
A certain dose of Sideritis extract from the Greek mountain tea is believed to have a relaxing effect on the arterial blood pressure. In addition, the higher content of antioxidant compounds in the Greek mountain tea also seems to provide favorable benefits to gastrointestinal health. Recent research has revealed that oral intake of Greek mountain tea can have an effect on the gastrointestinal tract, by scaling down the process of inflammation and toxicity. Can also provide a healing impact on chronic conditions such as stomach pain, acid reflux, and minor heartburns. It is also believed to fight off stomach infections by Helicobacter pylori.
Last but not least, Greek mountain tea has been linked with higher Libido levels, as it has been referenced in various pieces of literature. Perhaps the higher content of potassium and zinc, both of which are known to promote sexual health, can attribute to the least proven health benefit of the shepherd's tea.
